FDA approved lap band system use in the US in June 2001. Adjustable gastric band or the lap band surgery procedure is performed with laparoscopic instruments and it is used in serious desperate situations. It is a kind of restrictive weight loss surgery that has been designed for obesity patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or more, or between 35 and 40.
For having lap band surgery, pain intolerance to implanted devices as well allergic reactions to materials in the band are both contraindications. People between ages 18 and 55 years are eligible of it, but many doctors are working outside these ages. If severe cardiopulmonary diseases or other conditions which make patients poor surgical candidates exist, this surgery is not a good idea.
Similarly, if the patients have some untreated glandular disease like hypothyroidism (low thyroid), this surgery is not usually performed.
Hypothyroidism :
The adjustable gastric band is placed while making a small pouch at the very top of the stomach and it holds almost 50ml. When you eat something, this developed pouch fills quickly and the passage of the food from the top to the bottom of the stomach gets slowed.

The finite keyhole laparoscopic surgery is used to place the adjustable gastric band or lap band which is an inflatable silicone prosthetic apparatus. The traditional malabsorptive weight loss surgery tends to cut into or remove a part of the digestive system, but it doesn’t happen when placing gastric band. In lap band surgeries, none of the intestines are removed, re-routed or cut out and that’s why the reported gastric dumping syndrome issues do not occur.

after surgery weight lossAfter that surgery, the patient must eat less and eat slowly and chew food thoroughly. Though the initial weight loss in gastric banding surgery is somewhat slower than Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery, data suggests that there are similar weight loss results during a five-year-period.
It can happen with any surgical weight loss procedure when the patients begin to regain weight and even the radical procedures that results in a rapid weight loss following surgery have no exception in this connection. Usually the amount of weight a patient lost following surgery depends on his/her personal situation, mobility and motivation.

Mild to moderate physical activity may minimize the risk of endometrial cancer associated with obesity, according to study of American Cancer Society.
Dr. Alpa V. Patel and colleagues noticed 466 cases of endometrial cancers between 1992 and 2003 in 43,000 postmenopausal women with complete uteri.
Researchers found that, active women engaged initially in mild to moderate exercises, such as walking, biking, aerobics or dancing, equivalent to almost two hours of moderately paced walking per week.
“All measures of physical activity and the avoidance of sedentary behavior were associated with lower endometrial cancer risk,” Dr. Patel and her group report in the October 15th issue of the International Journal of Cancer.
However, physical exertion was strongly associated with reduced risk only among obese women (p = 0.003).
“Since physical activity, even in the absence of weight loss, significantly improves insulin sensitivity and has direct effects on bio-available estrogen,” the researchers suggest that “it is biologically plausible that overweight or obese women engaging in regular physical activity may experience a greater risk reduction compared to active, normal weight women.”
Dr. Patel’s team is trying to conduct more research work in relation to less intense activity and endometrial cancer risk reduction in order to “strengthen public health recommendations in this regard.”

In the past 70 years, at least 35 cures for cancer have been discovered. You will find information on all of these in Chapters 2 and 3. Would it surprise you to know that every one of these 35 is currently on the “Unproven Remedies” list maintained by the American Cancer Society (ACS)? Doesn’t it seem logical that at least one of these would have been thoroughly researched and investigated and found to have some use for at least some cancer sufferers? Isn’t it mind-boggling that every single one is still labeled “unproven, “ in spite of the lapse of decades since their discovery? But it’s worse. Not only has our cancer “system” failed to prove and endorse these cures, the discoverers (most of them reputable M.D.s and researchers) have been hounded with lawsuits, license suspension and even jail sentences for treating cancer patients. What do these cures have in common? Only one thing. None of them can be patented and sold through the “standard” distribution system monitored by our Food and Drug Administration (FDA). And yet, the U.S. alone has spent thousands of man-years and over fifty billion dollars on cancer research just since the “War on Cancer” began in 1974.
What’s going on here?

Keeping your mouth clean is key to heart health. A US study says heart patients had more bacteria in their mouths. A comparison of 386 heart attack patients and 840 people without heart disease showed that two types of bacteria, Tannerella forsynthesis and prevotella intermedia, were more prominent among those who had cardiac arrest. Overall heart attack patients had more of all types of bacteira in their mouths. Germs in the mouth may cause inflammation, which may lead to blood clot.
